I am hoping the Risk of Rogues is a bridge between The Secret of Flirting and what ever books comes next. A lovely teasing taste, an amuse-bouche to sate the appetite between books in the Sinful Sinner Series. . Two young lovers, Hartly Corry and Lady Anne are planning to elope, but Anne is just sixteen. I’ve read many of Sabrina Jeffries books and most of them have been in her Sinful Suitors series. While it’s not imperative to start any of the books at the beginning of the series, it certainly does help as a lot of the characters interweave between the books. Several months ago I finished book number 5 so when I saw a 5.5 come up as a novella, I knew I wanted to check it out. Hart is a secondary character in the book 4 and 5 but becomes the main character in this book. You definitely want to read book 5 first as you get a little bit of insight into who he is. Hart has a secret life, you see, and when he runs into his past love, that can be a hindrance. But, the author is well-versed at overcoming obstacles, especially when those obstacles are stubborn women who really want the hot guy. The story is a fun diversion and perfect for an hour or two to get ready for her next story. I really wish this book was a tad longer so that we could get to know Hart just a little bit more. However this story has her trademark plot all over it. Sexy guy, strong woman, and a whole lotta fun. * copy received for review consideration

The reality is that time and space changes people and reconciling after a separation (especially a separation caused by one of the idiots involved) is just...not that romantic, TO ME, PERSONALLY. Like trees, people continue to grow and change and extend past their humble origins, even after the forest is thinned. 2. Anne and her hats?? IDK. 3. Hart had too much baggage for a novella. 4. The "spymaster" helpfully announcing he is a spymaster to Anne when she needs confirmation RIGHT AFTER HE TELLS HER HE NEVER SHOWS HIS CARDS was absolutely ridiculous and I don't even. I can't. 5. Overall: not worth the hour I spent reading it.

This was a really enjoyable second-chance romance from the queen of Regency historicals. Anne was a delight, with her creative instincts and her fabulous hat collection, and I thought Hart was the perfect foil for her. He really appreciated who she was as a person, loving all the things about her which were unique (and which she thought made her undesirable). Beautifully written with a charming cast of characters, the only quibble I have with this story is that it was over too soon! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through NetGalley.

Hart has been living a secret, but when he runs into his past love, it finally believes it has become a hinderance. He wants to put right what he should have long ago but there’s only so much he can explain and the lady isn’t too eager anyway. A great fast read, just right for an afternoon. Nice little plot with engaging characters. A well written novella, lots of detail for a short read. Loved it!

But when he returns to England five years later, Anne has disappeared. He is devastated and returns to India, but he has never forgotten her. When he returns to England again, six years later and takes a position spying for Lord Fulkham, he doesn't use his connections to find her, because he doesn't want to learn that she married and will never be his. He makes it clear to family and friends that he is a confirmed bachelor, because if he can't marry Anne, he won't marry. So imagine his surprise when he arrives at his brother's hunting lodge for a week of manly pursuits and finds not only a house party in full swing but his lost love Anne! But she is no longer Miss Barkley, she is now Lady Anne. He convinces her to meet him alone and is ready to pick up where they left off - but Anne has other ideas. Anne was heartbroken when Hart left her with no word, he promised to elope with her if her father refused and instead he just up and left. It was probably for the best, her father told her that he was a gambler and a wastrel and the rumors she has heard over the years have only confirmed what her father said. She insists that they don't know each other and she doesn't trust him. He asks if he can court her, give them time to reacquaint themselves and see if marry is possible. Anne is still in love with Hart, but old fears and new secrets keep her from fully committing to him. He is sweet and woos her with gifts and kisses, but she can't seem to accept him - especially when he is so closemouthed about his prospects. Hart wants to tell her, but he needs her to trust him and commit before he can. When they finally make love and she still refuses to marry, he knows what he has to do to prove that he loves her for her and not for what she brings to a marriage. This is a very sweet second chance at love story, it is very short, but it is well written, flows without feeling rushed and has wonderful characters, warm love scenes and a very lovely ending. It is part of the Sinful Suitors series, but it can be read as a stand alone title with no issues. *I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher*

Anne came to the gathering especially because she was assured that HE wouldn't be there. The man who courted her then went away. He broke her heart when he enlisted in the army without an explanation or even a goodbye. She can't know that, like it's often the case, someone meddled in their affairs, which caused misunderstanding. There's no need to hide that she's still angry about his disengagement but she might not be as displease about his return as she wants to believe or make believe. And when he ask for a second chance at courting her, it's the perfect time to see if the old sparks are still there. I can understand why the heroine was pissed but her haughty sometimes bitchy attitude didn't work for me. And I think her distrust throughout all the story didn't do well for the romance. But the hero more than make up for it. I liked how he described the girl he knew; her particular tastes and that she wasn't like the others and didn't care about what other people think. You can see he really accept her for who she is and love her more for it. While I didn't enjoy this novella as much as I expected, it doesn't change the fact I think Sabrina Jeffries is one of the best authors in historical romance.

The Risk of Rogues is a short story novella, which was a nice diversion and easy to get through as I have been recovering from surgery this week. I think it can be read fine as a standalone, though I do believe there was some character crossover from the past couple of books. Captain Lord Hartley has returned home from his regiment and is endeavoring to lead the life of a spy. He certainly didn't expect to run into his former flame at his brother's house party, but doing so leads him to form a re-attachment to "the one who got away." But before Hartley can form a permanent attachment, he has to decide if she is still the woman he loves, and would make a good wife for his future endeavors. Lady Anne was equally shocked to bump into Hartley, and it causes all kinds of feelings to surface. At 27 years old, Anne is viewed as "on the shelf" and likely to stay that way due to her diminutive dowry. She isn't sure that she can trust Hartley's affections, or whether he will give up (again) when things don't go his way. I enjoyed watching these two circle each other, and I thought Hartley did a good job with his re-courtship of Anne. The two definitely had chemistry and were well-suited. If you have an hour of down time and are looking for some historical entertainment, this book is a good choice. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the publisher, Pocket Star.

Those parents created havoc on the lives of our lovely hero and heroine in this delightfully written, very short novella. I thoroughly enjoyed the novella and that is why I would have really liked it to be a bit longer than it was. However, it did tie up the Sinful Suitors series nicely. Captain Lord Hartley (Hart) Corry is the spare heir to a cold, unfeeling, uncaring marquess. When Hart fell in love and wanted to marry, his father flatly refused to allow it. Not only that, he pulled him out of school and bought him a commission with a unit that was leaving for India very quickly. Hart sent his beloved a note telling her what had happened, where he was going, why he was going and asked her to wait for him. Then, while he was gone, he wrote her letter after letter – and never got anything in return. Lady Anne Barkley’s father was a very rich merchant – then, later in life, inherited an earldom. When Hart asked for Anne’s hand, she was only sixteen years old and her father thought him to be a fortune hunter – not to mention that her father hated the aristocracy - so he refused to allow the marriage. What is Anne to think when the man she loves and plans to marry abruptly leaves for India? Is it because what her father said about him being a fortune hunter was true? Why didn’t he at least write to her? Why did she have to learn of his leaving through an article? Fast forward about eleven years and you have Hart arriving at his brother’s hunting lodge for a week-long gathering of male friends to hunt, drink and play billiards. To his great surprise, there is a ball in progress when he’s greeted at the door. Now, will he stay or will he go? He tells his sister-in-law “I know a matchmaking scheme when I see one, dear lady.” He decides he won’t go into the ball, but he will go into the card room and find his brother and friends. Whoops – he runs smack-dab into a lady – wearing a wild turban. Shock, it is Anne. He has never forgotten her and has always loved her. Now, he can find out why she never answered any of his letters, why she didn’t wait for him and maybe, just maybe, they can find their way back to each other. It is a delightful, but very short path for them to find their HEA. I loved Hart from the beginning but had a harder time warming up to Anne. I did come to like her, but she just had way too much self-doubt and angst. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and certainly recommend it. It was a wonderful story and a great wrap-up for the series. Last installment in the series, this second chance story was entertaining and sweet. Anne and Hart were young and very much in love when they decided to take the next step. To tell the truth, I wasn’t expecting such a short read as the last of the series but even so it was still enjoyable. I particularly liked the fact that both Anne and Hart were well-defined characters and I as a reader was able to connect with them and understand their struggles. Although more than struggles it was a tangle of misunderstandings and misinformation that was preventing them to reach their HEA. I don’t want to give anything away but I had an issue with Hart though. In his attempt to regain Anne’s love, he was willing to trap her into marriage by seducing her. That might be something we see a lot in historicals because it actually tended to happen quite often but it still sounds wrong in my book, historical or not. I know, I know, I’m too modern for my own good but that’s the way I prefer my stories, or not, as is the case here. Overall a good read that most people will be able to tackle in one evening. As a side note, that cover is so pretty and I think it’s the perfection depiction of our heroine. I just loved it! **I received this book at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher**

Hart wanted to marry Anne when he was a young man but she was only sixteen and her father refused.  After that he shipped off to war and upon his return he was never able to find Anne again.  She was the only woman he ever saw himself marrying and he's become a permanent bachelor because of that.  If he can't have Anne, he won't have anyone.  Until he literally stumbles across her at a family party. I know second chance stories are usually my fave for a novella because the background is already there, but I still like to get to know the details a bit more.  And when things went south in the past, I want that reconnection now to make sense and not just quickly push everything under the rug.  There's years of anger and resentment to work through!  In the end, this didn't feel believable to me and it made me a bit angry because I wanted more for Hart.  I liked Anne as well so I really just wanted this story to be fleshed out more.  Drag their current situation a bit more so I could really see their feelings blossom and maybe show us more about their past instead of a methodical story that was easily explained in a few paragraphs. While this wasn't my favorite story, it was extremely short so it made for an entertaining bedtime story and I will definitely be reading more from this series. *ARC provided by publisher Reviewed by Francesca❤ ♡ Don't want to miss any of our posts? Because all he wants is to show her how much of a rogue he can be when the right woman is in his arms. My Thoughts: You can always count on Sabrina Jefferies to entertain her readers. This book is a short read. It can easily be completed in one sitting. The characters are interesting and well developed in spite of the shortness of this book. Hartley's one wish in life was to marry the love of his life, Anne. When her father refused his offer of marriage he was determined to change the man's mind by proving he could and would support them so he purchased a commission in the army and left for India. He wrote to Anne constantly but she never received his letters which were intercepted by her father. Now Anne's father is dead and Hartley has returned to England with no idea where she has disappeared to. Imagine his surprise when literally running into her at his brother's house party. Will he be able to convince Anne of his undying devotion? Read this enjoyable read of less than two hours and find out for yourself. I gave this novella 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a high sensual rating of 4.25 of 5.0 flames. Although Anne is still a virgin the intimacy ran very hot indeed. I received a complimentary ARC of this title from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

He just wanted a second chance with Anne, but first he had to clear the misunderstanding between them, especially about their failed elopement (Anne was under the impression that he left her for India because he didn't care to fight for her). I thought this was a super sweet and light novella that I’m glad I found! A couple years back, I found out about Sabrina Jeffries’s historical romances and they’ve mostly been a hit. I’m glad to say that this latest installation is the same. THE RISK OF ROGUES follows Lady Anne and Lord Hartley’s second chance romance as Anne decides she won’t be burned again and Hartley chases after the woman of his dreams. “‘Do you want to know why I’m considered a confirmed bachelor? Because you were the only I thought this was a super sweet and light novella that I’m glad I found! THE RISK OF ROGUES follows Lady Anne and Lord Hartley’s second chance romance as Anne decides she won’t be burned again and Hartley chases after the woman of his dreams. “‘Do you want to know why I’m considered a confirmed bachelor? Because you were the only woman I’ve ever wanted to marry. Once there was no YOU…’” I enjoyed both characters’ POV’s and finding out what their motives and reasonings for certain actions were. Anne’s father disapproved of Hartley and thought he was a fortune hunter, and instead of fighting for their love, Hartley ran off to the army. What Anne didn’t know, however, is that Hartley’s father also disapproved of their marriage and threatened to cut him off, so he went to the army to make money and earn his place in life. Now that they’re reunited, Hartley wants to do everything to gain Anne back while Anne tries to resist him. There’s a push and pull element, sure, but I do think Hartley does a good grovel for leaving without word. I liked how Anne stood up for herself against him and overall it was a short and flirty historical romance (with some heavily anachronistic scenes). Because it was a novella though, I couldn’t get that invested into it. Still recommended for historical romance readers, especially if you follow this series!

A perfect second chance love story. A young couple kept apart by a disapproving father. Years later they meet again and all's well that ends well. Of course, to get there, there have to be a few obstacles and mainly regaining each other's trust. This is a perfect read for an evening. A very quick and light read. Lady Anne is also at the house party and is shocked to see him again. The man who broke her heart. As this is a novella, and you know there will be a HEA, I will not write more and spoil this wonderful book. I really enjoyed it. It’s a perfect ending to this series.

DNF. In my defense, I didn’t realize it was a second chance romance until after I had been approved by NetGalley. I don’t particularly want to read the same thoughts over and over.

The Risk of Rogues by Sabrina Jeffries is a quick, fun book to read. The week long house party is where we find our couple. Lady Anne was invited by her best friend, Captain Lord Hartley Cory was talked into joining the party in the guise of an all male only hunting party. There is still a spark after all these years. I enjoyed the journey to HEA. Definitely a second chance noel with spy masters.

I think this can probably be read as a standalone easily enough. But if you’ve been following this series, you’ll undoubtedly get a kick out of meeting up with previous characters again here. This short story had the same attention to detail and lively bantering that I so enjoy from Jeffries–even though it was an abbreviated tale this time. Read More

A short read that doesn’t fall to the curse of the novella.  It was well organized, characters had a backstory that made this quick courtship make sense; I absolutely loved how frank they both were at the very beginning of the story. I really enjoyed this book, which I have to say I was surprised. I don't usually shorts, or Novella as they don't have time for a full story. Not the case with The Risk of Rogues. is part of the Sinful Suitors and as such has just as much mystery, and intrigue. Am a sucker for lost live and 2nd chances. This is what Captain Hartley Corry and Lady Anna Barkley found , both have misgivings as to why the other either left without saying goodbye or why one's letters were never answered., Winning trust I really enjoyed this book, which I have to say I was surprised. This was a cute story, but a little lacking for me. I think it would have been more successful for me as a full length novel instead of a novella. I didn’t care much for Anne, but I feel like it’s because I didn’t really get a chance to know her.

The Risk of Rogues, is a cute fast pace novella. Hart and Anne's re-courtship is a great idea for a novella. They already know each other, so they just have to find out if they still suit.

Long-time readers will recognize Hart as a secondary character in the main Sinful Suitors series. Specifically he's a spy for Lord Fulkam and he's always had the threat of matchmaking held over his head by the various heroines from said series. But as we learn Hart doesn't need to be set up because his heart has always belonged to Anne. This is the final send off of the Sinful Suitors series. I liked / appreciated that Sabrina Jeffries gave all our characters their own stories (or novellas) and they all got their HEAs. Hart's was a nice second-chance romance which I read in a couple of hours. Sabrina Jeffries hits all the major points: there's backstory, chemistry, heat, romance. Regardless of all this, I still have to give it a 3 star rating. It's just so quick and short, and really there's not much to the story. I just wanted a little bit more out of the history between Anne and Hart. But still for me it's a solid 3 star. I've really enjoyed this series, and I'm looking forward to whatever Sabrina Jeffries has in store next. *ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A lovely new novella to take you away to another time and place for an evening reading in your favorite chair with a glass of wine. The match was forbidden and Hart's father bought his son a commission in the Army and he was shipped off to India. Hart has never had the urge to marry if he couldn't marry the woman he loved then why bother. Eleven years later he literally bumps into Anne at a ball given by his brother. He thought she had long since married and had a passel of kids. That she hasn't is a miracle and he is now determined to prove he still loves her and wants to marry her. Anne doesn't know how she can trust Hart after so many years. She still loves him, but if he has been back in England for three years, why hasn't he tried to find her. Secrets and misunderstandings could cost them both their chance at love and marriage. Will they learn to trust each other? Give enough to finally put the past behind them. This is a wonderful story that reads more like a full-length novel. It has everything you would want in a love story. Surprise, excitement, and a steamy love scene. Sabrina is one of my go-to authors, I love everything she writes.
